Prometheus: Awesome New Trailer Is Awesome

You love your mom, right? I bet you think she’s great.

This new trailer for the Alien prequel Prometheus is better than your momma.

Shut up and agree with me.

No Seriously, Play The Dragon’s Dogma Demo

When Itsuno and his Devil May Cry 4 team revealed that their next game would be some medieval thing where you fought mythical beasts, I thought, “This is why we won’t see a real DMC for a while?” Pics didn’t impress me, and the videos weren’t mind blowing. This game has a demo on Live and PSM right now and I didn’t even play it for a while after downloading it. I figure I’ll get to it when I have absolutely nothing better to do.

Well I’ll be damned.

Armchair Producer: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

We all do this from time to time.

If you’re anything like me you like to play armchair producer and imagine how you would oversee videogame development – usually with our favorite franchises. With this, the start of new series on this blog, I’m gonna talk about what I’d do with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (or at least what I would have done). In a recent blog on Capcom-Unity, Sven revealed that there are no plans for the game and Niitsuma’s team has moved on to another project. That in itself is interesting (what are they cooking now?), but with MvC3 seemingly finished, I can’t help but wonder what could be added at this point. Well I wonder no more, I have three ideas that I think would be great for the game. They won’t happen, but it’s fun to wonder…

Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Console Release Media Dump!

Tekken tag Tournament 2 if finally coming home! Next September, the Kings and Queens of Iron Fist shall once again throw down in teams… or not. Surely you know by now the latest arcade update of the game introduced a new option to use a single character? No? Well that’s my fault; I haven’t been updating like I should. But yes, battles can wage as 1v1, 2v2, or 1v2. Balancing will make either choice legit, according to Harada himself. He even hinted that this may be standard for Tekken going forward (yes!). Let’s have us that trailer, yeah?

Halo 4: New Shots!

There’s some new shots for Halo 4 to coincide with this week’s November launch announcement (Nov. 6th)!

Peep the new grenade type icon on the upper left...

Wouldn't be Halo without some hilarious ragdoll deaths!

Aliens: Colonial Marines Multiplayer Video Analysis

Aliens: Colonial Marines, by Gearbox Interactive for Sega

Before I analyze this video, I wanna establish a few things… I am a super-fan the Alien films. All of them. Including Alien3 and Resurrection. I enjoyed AvP and stomached Requiem. I’m ecstatic about Prometheus even if it conceptually veers from the Xenomorph path of the other movies. I am also an avid FPS player. I played most of the big franchises (Halo and Battlefield being my faves), and my love for POV goes back to the interior sections of Rescue and Friday the 13th (both on NES, look them up). I also love a good multiplayer game, it’s my main vice for gaming these days. With all that in mind, and this is not a review, here’s what I think about this gameplay video.

New Double Dragon Looks Pretty Bland

This is an upcoming XBLA/PSN revamp of Double Dragon. Look at it. What can we take from this?

  • 2.5D presentation, that’s fine.
  • Art direction is pretty bad, unless it’s some homage to bad arcade sticker art – then it’s kinda genius.
  • Animation is choppy, unless again… it’s a homage to the 2D animation – then it’s cool (no wait, Super Double Dragon, no excuse).
  • Hit-detection looks wonky. That’s just from watching, though.

I’m a child of quite a few beat-em-ups, and I see it as one of those genres that just vanished without a trace. While many other genres evolved or came back mostly intact with modern aesthetics, beat-em-ups just sorta froze in time. These days there’s been some love for this kind of pastime. There’s been digital releases for old franchises lately, kinda spearheaded by a few Ninja Turtles releases, that made me notice something…

These games could be totally awesome with very little tweaking. Aside from direct ports (at least code wise in regard to Turtles in Time HD), why not try to evolve the formula? Beat-em-ups have a kindred spirit in traditional fighting games, yet nobody seems to be interested in borrowing more from fighters to enhance the experience of beat-em-ups.

I was hoping that a true Double Dragon reboot would be the one to take measures like this, but it doesn’t seem likely judging by that video. I will download the game trial and give it a try, but my expectations are pretty low.

The Avengers: Captain America Trailer

Here’s a new Avengers trailer that focuses on Captain America. This is appropriate, has his solo sequel’s date was just announced for April 4th, 2014, and it reportedly picks up after Avengers.

I imagine there will be mini-trailers for all the main team members. This movie is gonna kick so much ass donkeys will contact the ACLU.

"Thumbs up, soldier."

Updates Coming This Week…

Sorry for the lack of updates in the last few days, I’ve been off my game for a bit. There will be new updates, especially original opinion blogs soon. The news you can get at a million places – but I like to think I have something I can add that speaks to a very specific audience. At this point you may be that demo I’m looking for, and I the voice of your reason. It would seem I do have regulars according to my stats, and I thank the 9-10 of you that visit everyday.

Keep on coming!
